A mother from Kentucky was recently taken into custody on a number of charges relating to child abuse, including keeping her 10-year-old daughter imprisoned in a dog cage for extended periods of time, according to the police.

First-degree strangulation, first-degree criminal abuse involving a child 12 years or under, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, first-degree wanton endangerment, third-degree terroristic threatening, and failure to appear are the charges against Sheila Mann, 31.

According to police, there was abuse in Madison County during the months of January through early March of this year.

“The child, who is under the age of 12, had disclosed to investigators that Ms. Mann had locked her inside a dog kennel-type cage, for two to three days at a time, and would only allow her to exit that cage just to use the bathroom,” Richmond Police Chief Rodney Richardson stated to WKYT.

During a forensic investigation, the girl told police that the defendant had briefly strangled her around the neck with her hands. Citing a criminal complaint warrant, the girl also claimed that Mann had threatened to slice her throat.

According to authorities, the child reported that she had problems breathing and that her throat hurt for a few days following the alleged strangling event.

According to authorities, the mother allegedly mistreated the youngster for several minutes before tying the girl’s hands together behind her back with twine.

The youngster told authorities that on occasion, twine was also used to keep the dog cage secured. The accused victim said that despite her best efforts, she was never able to get away.

The mother who is being accused seems determined to provide her version of events.

In an interview with WKYT, Mann refuted the accusations made against her, stating that they resulted from a miscommunication regarding an incident in which she was the true victim.

Approximately 40 miles northwest of Richmond, in the medium-sized city of Georgetown, is where the defendant claimed the incident or occurrences took place. Foster parents are currently looking after Mann’s kid, according to the police.

Mann is being jailed on a $50,000 bond after being charged on Monday. According to Madison County records, the defendant is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday morning for her arraignment.
