WPBN: Abundant Life Christian School, a private school east of Madison, Wisconsin’s downtown, was the scene of a horrific shooting Monday morning.
A teacher and a pupil were killed in the incident, while six other people were injured. The suspect, a female student, 15, was also slain during the incident, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said.
Authorities received a call about an active shooter at the school at around 10:57 a.m., which is when the shooting occurred. Interestingly, a second-grade student from within the school placed the 911 call. The police officers that got on the site were already in the middle of training for situations like this, so they were able to act fast when the authorities arrived.
The teacher and student unfortunately perished in the attack, according to Chief Barnes, who confirmed the death toll.
It was discovered that the young female student, who was suspected of being the shooter, was also murdered in the altercation with the police. Authorities are still investigating the incident as they try to piece together information about the attack’s motivations and the series of events that resulted in this tragic catastrophe.
“So what began as a training day became an actual thing,” he stated.

Students from different grade levels were present in the classroom when the shooting occurred, and it happened during study hall.
A teacher and a teenage pupil were among the victims of the shooting; both were shot and killed. Barnes, the police chief, did not elaborate on the victims’ identities, and it was not apparent if the attack was directed at them specifically.
Along with the deaths, four more children were reported to have non-life-threatening injuries and were in the process of healing, and two more were believed to be in critical condition. Whether the teacher and student were the intended targets has not yet been established by the authorities.
Natalie Rupnow, a 15-year-old who also went by Samantha, was identified as the suspected shooter. Abundant Life School was her school. While being taken to the hospital, she reportedly died from a gunshot wound that appeared to be self-inflicted, according to the police.
It is anticipated that the cause and manner of death will be formally determined by the county medical examiner. The reason behind the shooting is yet unknown.
Investigators have searched the house and spoken with the shooter’s relatives. Authorities are receiving full cooperation from the shooter’s parents. Although authorities have not released any additional information on the weapon, a handgun was found at the site.
President Joe Biden urged Congress to move quickly on gun reform legislation in the wake of the shooting. In particular, he called on Congress to enact legislation that would restrict high-capacity magazines, outlaw assault weapons, and institute universal background checks.
“From Newtown to Uvalde, Parkland to Madison, to so many other shootings that don’t receive attention — it is unacceptable that we are unable to protect our children from this scourge of gun violence,” Biden stated. “We cannot continue to accept it as normal.”
Rep. Mark Pocan, a Democrat from Wisconsin, stated: “If we don’t take action, there will be more school shootings and more children killed. Our political representatives ought to do more. He also gave a phone number for those in need of assistance and the address of a reunification website.
