Nearly two dozen people participating in an illegal gambling enterprise in South Los Angeles were either detained or cited by authorities last week.
A news statement from the Los Angeles Police Department stated that several anonymous tips about a potential illicit gambling enterprise and drug activities at 10122 S. Figueroa St. were sent to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers.
The cops provided a small shopping complex address that has a laundromat, a tire store, and a smoking shop, among other establishments. The precise location of the illicit operation’s base within the plaza was not made public.
When officers from multiple LAPD divisions executed a search warrant at the scene on Thursday night at 8 p.m., authorities carried out their sting operation.
According to LAPD, “During the search, officers recovered several illegal gambling machines, narcotics and two firearms. As a result of the operation, individuals were arrested or cited for various offenses, including illegal gambling, narcotics possession and firearms violations.”
According to authorities, all 22 of the individuals who were detained or issued citations are citizens of Los Angeles.

The department has released photos of a dimly lit room with several gambling tables. One of the tables, at least, was outside. The LAPD encourages anyone with more information about the unlawful gambling operation or any other criminal gambling activity.
