LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. — Deputies say they caught a 22-year-old man who shot and killed another man during an attempted robbery in Lake Worth Beach.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) said that on May 5, police went to South H Street and 8th Avenue South in Lake Worth Beach because someone had been shot. When the cops got there, they found a man who had been shot in the head and was already dead.
According to the arrest report, officers and the crime scene unit found a single.22 caliber shell on the sidewalk about 20 feet away from the body during a walk-through and canvass of the area.
A cooperating witness told investigators that just before the killing, they were sitting outside their home with the victim when a man in a black ski mask with a gun came up to them and said, “Give me your money.”
The witness told the police that he didn’t give the robber what he wanted, so they started to fight. As the fight went on, the robber fired one shot, which hit the victim.
The sheriff’s office said that the witness followed the thief to the Travel Inn Motel at 801 South Dixie Highway. The gunman was later seen again near 8th Avenue South and South H Street. During the run, a second person saw the gunman shoot at the first person.
On May 6, officers went to the room where the gunman was staying to search. After getting into the room, they found out that 22-year-old Jason Nozistene was the one who had signed up for it.
The ski mask used in the robbery was on the bed, and the gun was on the chest, the police report said.
Investigators also said that on May 8, they found the Ruger.22 caliber gun under a car. By matching the case, the gun lab was able to prove it was the same gun used at the crime scene.
In the arrest record, it said that Nozistene wasn’t in the room when the police came in. Instead, they thought he had gotten out through a window.
The sheriff’s office said that Nozistene was caught on Saturday and charged with first-degree murder with a gun, attempted first-degree murder with a gun, attempted robbery with a gun while wearing a mask, and delinquent possession of a gun.
