Many people in Florida are happy about a new company investing in the state. This company plans to build a new facility and create jobs, with recruiting expected to start in 2024.
The company, Cosentino, is based in Spain and specializes in making and distributing surfaces for design purposes. They create things like countertops, sinks, floor coverings, and swimming pools. One of their popular products is called Silestone.
As per Forbes‘ report in the summer of 2023, Cosentino has committed to constructing a $270 million facility in Jacksonville, Florida. This facility will be quite large, covering 408,000 square feet, and it marks the company’s first production facility outside of Spain.
Cosentino Americas CEO Eduardo Cosentino stated to Forbe’s:
We considered sites in Georgia, Texas, and Florida. We made the decision to go with Florida, in the Jacksonville area. Our decision was based on several factors, including the ability to find very good talent locally, and it being a city with a very good port, which weāll need to bring in our raw materials, and one that also has very good rail access.
The Cosentino website says they’re putting up a site on 330 acres, about 20 miles from the Port of Jacksonville. They plan to start building in 2024 and 2025, creating 180 jobs for production and maintenance operators and shift managers. Jax USA expects the project to finish in 2028.
In 2017, Cosentino opened a headquarters office in Miami, which added 177 well-paying jobs and contributed $11.5 million to Florida’s economy.
