WPBN: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) stated that late Monday afternoon, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 struck Nevada east of Lake Tahoe.
It occurred just after 3 p.m., according to the USGS, and was first reported as a 5.8 magnitude earthquake before being lowered. The village of Yerington in Lyon County, east of Tahoe and Carson City, was the epicenter of the earthquake.
There have also been several reports of aftershocks with magnitudes between 2.5 and 3.5. This map illustrates the locations of earthquakes in California and Nevada. The tremors were felt all the way down to Fresno and as far west as Solano County.
In response to the earthquake, the California Office of Emergency Services stated that it would collaborate with federal, state, and local partners to offer whatever help required in Western Nevada.

According to the Carson City Sheriff’s Department, there have been no reports of damage or injuries from the earthquake.
7.0 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Northern California, Tsunami Warning Canceled
Four days prior to Monday’s earthquake, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Northern California near Humboldt County triggered a tsunami warning in the middle of the day. Prior to being upgraded to a 7.0 magnitude, that earthquake was initially recorded as a 6.6.
