6,900 pounds of hot dogs were recalled by the USDA when it was found that they had not been subjected to federal inspection.
When Kentucky-based meat company AW Farms discovered that over 7,000 pounds of hot dogs had been “produced without the benefit of federal inspection,” the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a notice recalling the product on Monday.
Restaurants and lodging facilities in West Virginia and Ohio that acquired the hot dogs on or after May 30 were impacted by the summertime classic’s recall. The hot dogs have an estimated 45-day shelf life.
The discovery was initially reported to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), a state body that oversees the inspection of all commercially sold meats, by a public health partner.
According to the organization, every meat sold for commercial use has to pass an inspection under the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA) to guarantee that it is “safe, wholesome, and properly labeled.”

Following an examination, authorities determined that the hot dogs required to be returned because they had been made and distributed without a federal inspection.
By looking for the establishment number “EST. 47635,” which is found inside the USDA mark of inspection, consumers can identify the recalled products.
The products included two 5-pound vacuum-sealed packets of “French City Foods” hot dogs, two 5-pound packages of “Pork, beef, dextrose, salt, sugar maple GEO Broan all meat hot dogs,” and two 5-pound packages of “GEO Brown all beef hot dogs.” The ten-pound boxes contained these two packages of hot dogs.
The FSIS is concerned that the recalled goods might still be in hotel or restaurant refrigerators or freezers. Businesses that have the recalled products on hand are advised by the organization to either return or throw them away instead of serving them.
Despite the lack of verified complaints of unfavorable reactions brought on by hot dog consumption, the USDA advises anybody who may have eaten one of the recalled hot dogs to seek advice from a healthcare professional.
