A man faced charges of child neglect and drug possession after he left a 2-month-old baby, still in a car seat, and fled the scene.
On Friday, Courtney Bailey was pulled over by the police for traffic violations at the intersection of Fort Street and Edison Avenue.
The Fort Myers Police Department reported that Bailey was instructed to step out of the vehicle. Officers noticed that the 2-month-old was not properly secured in the car seat. Additionally, K9 Bane detected the presence of narcotics.
FMPD‘s post stated that, “Bailey began to act nervous and dropped the car seat with the infant approximately knee height on the sidewalk and began to flee but was quickly detained.”
The EMS assessed the infant, confirming there were no injuries.
Officers conducted a search and discovered two bags containing suspected cocaine base in a ditch filled with water, the same path Bailey was observed running through.
Following this, Bailey was apprehended and taken to the Lee County Jail. He faced charges of Resisting an Officer without Violence, Tampering with Evidence, Possession of Cocaine, and Child Neglect.
