A Miami-Dade police officer investigating a recent shooting was targeted and shot in Miami Gardens on Monday morning.
The incident took place near Northwest 154th Street and 20th Avenue.
The injured officer, part of the Crime Suppression Team, had been pursuing a suspect related to a weekend shooting when an unidentified vehicle fired upon them at a residence. The officer sustained a graze wound to the face.
Emergency responders quickly transported the wounded officer to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
Despite the harrowing situation, the officer arrived conscious and engaged in conversation with medical staff. Aerial footage from Sky 10 showed a firearm in a crosswalk at Northwest 154th Street and 19th Avenue, marked as evidence, emphasizing the risks faced by law enforcement.
Law enforcement sources revealed that an extensive search, involving multiple agencies, is underway to locate the suspects who remain at large. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers encountered by officers in the line of duty.
