The Section 8 program, which provides subsidized rent, will begin accepting applications on February 5, 2024, for people who wish to be added to a waiting list.
Through the federal program, county residents in need can submit their applications until February 19 in order to be eligible to obtain vouchers or coupons for housing in a rental facility that takes part in the initiative.
Applicants must be older than eighteen and have low finances in order to be eligible. Veterans, the homeless, and those affected by natural disasters will receive priority.
In the case of an individual, the yearly income cannot be more than $36,150; for a couple, it can be $41,300; for three people, $46,450; for four people, $51,600; for five, $55,750; for six, $59,900; for seven, $64,000; and for eight, $68,150.
Please take note that this year there will be no acceptance of paper submissions. A waiting list for Section 8 will consist of just 5,000 randomly selected applicants.
Additionally, each household will only be allowed to submit one application. Anyone submitting more than one will not be taken into consideration.
Families without access to a computer, smartphone, tablet, or Internet can contact 311 for help, or they can visit county libraries and community centers, which will provide application assistance starting on February 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Individuals with impairments might get assistance from (786) 654-8440 in completing the application.
The following libraries can provide assistance: Miami Beach Regional Library (227 22nd Street, Miami Beach); North Dade Regional Library (2455 NW 183 Street, Miami Gardens); Westchester Regional Library (9445 Coral Way); South Dade Regional Library (10750 SW 211 Street, Cutler Bay); and Main Library, Downtown (101 West Flagler Street).
Participants will receive a confirmation number after submitting their application, which will serve as a reminder that the procedure is over. There will be a random selection conducted after February 19 and for an additional two to three weeks.
