Florida Dollar General Shooter's 'White Boy Summer' Manifesto and the Loss of 3 Black Lives

Florida authorities released the 27-page hateful and racist document on Friday, written by the white gunman who targeted and killed three Black individuals at a Jacksonville Dollar General last year.

Jacksonville County Sheriff T.K. Waters stated that the document, titled “White Boy Summer to Remember,” is now public after the conclusion of the investigation into the August 26, 2023 attack, which claimed the lives of Angela Michelle Carr, 52; Anolt Joseph “AJ” Laguerre Jr., 19; and Jerrald De’Shaun Gallion, 29.

Sheriff Waters had previously committed to transparency and fulfilling the promise to publish the manifesto from 21-year-old Ryan Palmeter.

“Members of the public deserve to determine, firsthand, that this manifesto is filled with the rantings of an isolated, hateful madman, whose disgusting ideology is wholly inconsistent with the belief structure of the Jacksonville community,” his office stated in a statement Friday.

“As our city heals from this tragedy, let us continue to stand united.”

The manifesto promotes antisemitic and racist beliefs and is filled with derogatory remarks about people of color and LGBTQ people. The Messenger reviewed it.

Carr’s family attorney, John M. Phillips, stated in a statement that the document was “written to give [the shooter’s] racist views attention, but also exposes the hate which we all must fight.”

Officials reported that Palmeter engaged in a hate-fueled attack targeting black individuals when he entered a Dollar General store last August. Armed with a swastika-adorned AR-15, he initiated gunfire. Following a confrontation with law enforcement, the assailant took his own life.

Authorities at Edward Waters University, located nearby, revealed that the shooter was observed on campus just before the store incident.

Students at the historically Black university raised the alarm when they spotted the gunman donning gloves and a tactical vest behind the library. He fled in his vehicle when security attempted to approach and question him.

Additionally, it was disclosed that the shooter’s father contacted authorities on the same day, although the shooting was already in progress by the time the police received the call.
