Miami Man Accused of Brutally Dragging Pregnant Girlfriend in Public Assault

A 37-year-old man, Jean Washington from northwest Miami-Dade’s Brownsville area, is now facing three felony charges following an incident reported by Miami police.

Allegedly, he physically assaulted his pregnant girlfriend, repeatedly punching her in the face and dragging her through the streets. The motive behind the attack was said to be the girlfriend’s prior action of filing a police report against him.

Jean Washington was taken into custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was already being held on Thursday for charges that included a sex offender registration violation. State records reveal a prior conviction for aggravated sexual battery in Dougherty County, Georgia.

According to the police, the assault occurred on the afternoon of January 8 near the intersection of North Miami Avenue and Northeast 75th Street in Miami’s Little River neighborhood.

Washington allegedly exited the passenger’s seat of a car upon seeing his girlfriend, who was three months pregnant with his child, standing on the corner. The confrontation ensued as he addressed her regarding the earlier police report she had filed earlier that day, as stated in the arrest report.

The report states Washington said, “Why you called (sic) the police and putting (sic) charges? You better call them and drop them, you know I’m on papers!”

He subsequently punched her, dragged her, and fled the scene, according to the police.

As of Monday afternoon, Washington, who is still in TGK, is now charged with witness tampering, aggravated battery of a pregnant victim, and battery with two or more prior convictions.

His bond is currently listed as “to be set” in Miami-Dade jail records.
