The tragic killing of a baby boy by his mother has resurfaced on social media, sparking the spread of a malicious hoax concerning the toddler’s father.
Nakira Griner, aged 29 and residing in Bridgeton, was found guilty of murder and desecration of human remains last year. Despite having the option to accept a plea deal, she opted for a trial.
According to autopsy reports, the mother fatally beat her 23-month-old son, resulting in a skull fractured into 74 pieces. Subsequently, his body was burned in an oven, as per NJ.com.
During court proceedings, it was revealed that Griner had dismembered the toddler in addition to burning his remains. Despite her defense asserting that the killing was unintentional, a Camden County jury rejected her argument.
Griner is currently held at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, the state’s sole women’s prison, serving a life sentence plus an additional seven years without the possibility of parole.
Recently, The Root brought renewed attention to the case, leading TikTok influencers to create videos recounting the details, some accompanied by life lessons and others containing misinformation.
In these videos, influencers label the murder as a “cautionary tale.” A user named caroloswins posted one retelling that has garnered over 2.8 million views, with him and others emphasizing the story as a lesson for potential fathers.
“Let this be a cautionary tale to you men out there. Please be careful who you have kids with. You gotta be careful otherwise you might end up with a woman like Nakira Griner,” he stated.
