Mother Plunges 140 Feet to Her Death While Hiking With Baby and Husband in Arizona

On Monday, while hiking on a mountain in Arizona with her husband and infant, a California mother fell 140 feet to her death, according to local authorities.

After falling over a steep cliff on Bear Mountain, the woman, named as Zaynab Joseph, was discovered by a group of hikers who heard her cry in pain on an embankment, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

Joseph, 40, was still breathing when one of the hikers in the group ran down the embankment; he passed away soon after, according to the sheriff’s office.

First responders recovered Joseph’s body after airlifting the husband and the couple’s child from the mountain. Authorities stated that the family was traveling from California and was lodging at an Airbnb in Sedona.

Sheriff’s officials are interviewing hikers after they down the mountain in order to determine the reason of the fatal occurrence, which is now under investigation.

Farwa Zaidi posted on Facebook, saying, “No words can describe the pain our families are going through, especially her husband and three young children.”

The US Forest Service classifies Bear Mountain as a “strenuous hike” because “it’s mostly unshaded, steep, and difficult in places.”

Where Joseph and her family were hiking before to her fall is unknown.
