24-Year-Old BMW Driver Killed by Passenger in Brooklyn Shooting

Authorities reported on Sunday that a 24-year-old man was shot and killed inside a BMW on a Brooklyn street, a few blocks away from the scene of another guy’s gunshot death a week earlier.

Around 8:20 p.m., Daequan Buckley, the most recent victim, was shot many times in the abdomen outside the Magic Fingers Studio Hair Salon in East Flatbush, close to E. 54th St. and Church Ave. Saturday, according to police.

A woman who works in the area and witnessed the bloodshed stated that, “The shooter was a passenger in the car and victim was in the driver’s seat. They were sitting in the car together.”

“The guy shot him three times, and he got out the car and walked away,” she stated. “The area is horrible. It’s not shocking to me seeing this happen. I’ve worked in the area for two years. It’s not good.”

Buckley was taken by ambulance to Brookdale University Hospital, but he was not going to survive. Two individuals, one of whom was armed, were taken into custody by police as persons of interest. Ring Tong, who works across the street at a laundromat, reported hearing a round of gunfire.

“I couldn’t see anything, but there was some guys from the corner running toward the car after the shooting,” she stated. “The guy was shot in the car. I couldn’t believe it.”

Manager of America’s Food Basket and another employee in the area, Ariel Jiminiaa, claimed to have heard three gunshots “back to back” and subsequently witnessed fleeing individuals.

“Over here, little by little it’s gotten a bit better, but sometimes you have problems,” he stated.

In Brooklyn’s 67th Precinct, this was the third murder of the month.

Anthony Lancaster, a 40-year-old bodega owner, was shot and killed on April 20 at the intersection of E. 53th St. and Clarkson Ave.

Gamaliel Oliver, 45, was admitted to Brookdale University Hospital three days prior after suffering a deadly gunshot wound to his belly. Later, police discovered that he had been shot to death around one hour earlier on East Flatbush’s E. 98th St. close to Lenox Road.

The precinct has seen a rise in killings this year; as of April 21, there have been seven homicides, up from five at the same time last year. Compared to the same time last year, there have been more than 18% fewer murders in the entire city thus far this year.
