Authorities in the tiny Kansas city of Westmoreland reported that a tornado tore through the area on Tuesday, destroying about two dozen homes and killing one person.
Officials from Pottawatomie County announced on Facebook that a tornado damaged several buildings in the city on Tuesday night. In Westmoreland, first responders were using grid searches to assess damage and look for potential casualties.
A spokesman for Pottawatomie County verified the lone fatality in a press release distributed to reporters. The deceased person’s name was kept secret until their family was informed. According to the county spokesperson, three other persons were hurt, although none of them needed immediate medical attention.
According to a county spokesman, the tornado in north Westmoreland destroyed twenty-two houses, five outbuildings, and three probable RVs in an RV park.

The county spokeswoman revealed that as of late Tuesday night, the entire city of Westmoreland was without power.
About 45 miles to the northwest of Topeka is Westmoreland.
Social media users shared pictures of a tornado that was spotted in Westmoreland, along with wrecked houses, uprooted trees, and a vehicle that had overturned.
The storms on Tuesday occurred just two days after Oklahoma was devastated by tornadoes on Sunday, which resulted in at least 100 injuries and four fatalities. Tornadoes that ripped through Nebraska and Iowa on Friday destroyed houses and businesses and killed one person.
