Legal Action Taken: Springfield Man Found Guilty of Fentanyl, Cocaine Trade

After entering a guilty plea to charges, a Springfield man who organized or led a narcotics conspiracy throughout the Northeast was given a jail sentence.

29-year-old Juan Carlos “JC” Ortiz of Springfield was given a sentence of seven years and eleven months in prison, with an additional five years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Vermont.

In the past, Ortiz entered a guilty plea to organizing the distribution of cocaine and fentanyl with others.

Ortiz entered a guilty plea in their court cases together with twelve other individuals who were accused of drug distribution. Leading the gang, Ortiz stayed with several homes around Vermont, where he made and supplied drugs.

During November 2021 and August 2022, Ortiz depended on his accomplices to carry out prearranged drug shipments and to give him transportation between Vermont and Massachusetts so that he could acquire and distribute drugs.

While engaging in drug trafficking, a number of these conspirators possessed firearms, and they would trade drugs for firearms.

As a condition of a plea deal with the US in this case, Ortiz entered a guilty plea.
