Violence Strikes 25-Year-Old Fatally Shot Outside Bronx Home

Authorities stated on Sunday that a Bronx man was fatally shot outside of his apartment complex.

Around 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, Daniel Lachapel, 25, was shot in the head on Allerton Ave. close to White Plains Road in Allerton. At the scene, he passed away.

The neighbors reported hearing many gunshots, but there was little disturbance following.

Kevin Hernandez, 30, a resident of the building and a friend of the victim, stated, “I heard eight shots. The guy is the calmest guy. He doesn’t mess with anybody. He’s always on his own.”

“People couldn’t even go outside ’cause [police] said it was a crime scene,” Hernandez stated. “When they told me who it was, it just shocked me. I didn’t expect that guy to get killed.”

Hector Martinez, 64, a neighbor, claimed that until police arrived, he was unaware that gunshots had occurred so close to his house.

“Oh, man, 25 years old? Young guy. I’m sorry to hear that,” he stated. “I’m new here. I came here from Miami. … I haven’t heard something bad happen here like that.”

Nonetheless, Hernandez and other others said the neighborhood was unsafe.

“Me, myself I got jumped a month ago,” Hernandez stated. “This area is just bad. Same spot he got shot is the same spot I got jumped.”

Lachapel’s shooting is the Bronx’s 49th Precinct’s second homicide of the year; in 2023, there were five killings there.
