Alachua County Sheriff's Officers Give All Clear after Lockdown at Wiles Elementary

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After the school was put on lockdown, Alachua County Sheriff’s officers have given the “all clear” at Wiles Elementary School. They say that everyone in school is safe.

According to deputies, the Green Leaf neighborhood behind the school was broken into around 3 a.m.. A gun was among the things that were taken from the car.

When the deputies searched the area, they found some of the stolen things under one of the school’s portables. The stolen gun hasn’t been found, which makes people worry that it could be on or near school.

Because of this, the school was put on lockdown and looked through.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we locked down the school,” said Cpt. Chris Sims, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office’s public information officer.

“We had our deputy sheriffs search the property with dogs, including firearm dogs, to make sure that the gun wasn’t left on the property or in a playground where a child could find it.”

On the land, deputies didn’t find any suspects or guns.
