According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a guy in his 67th year of age who was attempting to walk across US-19 in Pasco County was struck by a car and later died as a result of his injuries.
Troopers reported that less than an hour later, another pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking along State Route 92 in Hillsborough County.
The accident in Pasco took place around 9:45 o’clock in the evening. According to the agency, a woman from Port Richey at the age of 52 was operating an SUV while traveling south on US-19 near Edna Avenue in Hudson.
When the pedestrian, who was 67 years old and also from Port Richey, was struck by the woman, he was attempting to cross the roadway. The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while the driver and her passenger walked away unscathed.
According to the reports from the highway police, the second victim died after being struck by a vehicle as they crossed over to U.S. 92 from the parking lot of G Five Feed & Outdoor in Plant City.
The driver of the vehicle that struck him was a man from Plant City who was 20 years old and heading west with a woman who was 22 years old and two teenagers who were 15 and 17 years old. Nobody was hurt in the process.
The Tampa Bay area is among the metropolitan areas with the highest number of fatalities among pedestrians in the United States. At the end of 2017, an advocacy group for urban development called Smart Growth America published a report that analyzed statistics regarding the deaths of pedestrians.
According to their findings, the metropolitan area that includes Tampa, St. Pete, and Clearwater is the fourth most dangerous place in the United States to go for a stroll.
