Arrest Made in Turnpike Shooting: Suspected Gunman in Custody

On Wednesday, police in southwest Miami-Dade identified a suspect they said had shot another man on Florida’s Turnpike.

Braian Axel Gimenez, 26, of Miami, is accused of premeditated attempted murder, shooting or hurling a lethal projectile, firing a handgun from a moving vehicle, and illegal firearm use, according to a Miami-Dade Police Department arrest report.

Miami-Dade law enforcement According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, the shooting was reported on Monday soon before midnight in the highway’s northbound lanes, close to Southwest 257th Terrace.

According to Rodriguez, when police got on the site, they discovered a woman inside the car who was unharmed and a male inside the car who had at least one gunshot wound.

He was taken in critical condition to Jackson South Medical Center by medical personnel.

In a statement to detectives, the woman who was shot claimed to have seen Gimenez jogging close to the car she was in while sitting in the passenger seat of a gray Mercedes-Benz that was stopped on the side of the road.

Based on prior violent episodes with Gimenez, the woman reportedly instructed the driver to speed out of the area out of fear for their life.

According to the police, Gimenez approached Southwest 112th Avenue on the Turnpike while driving north from Southwest 137th Avenue, started chasing the victim, and then he pulled up next to the victim’s car and started shooting.

According to authorities, the man inside the car was hit by gunfire in the head at the same moment, which caused him to lose control of his car and crash into a tree.

According to the police, Gimenez left the scene by driving north on the Turnpike without stopping.

Later on, the police verified that Gimenez had been found at the Villa Capri Apartments, which are situated in the Leisure City neighborhood on the 14400 block of Southwest 284th Street.

Six shell casings were discovered at the crime scene, according to investigators who went to the scene. After that, the spent casings were gathered, and the victim’s car was towed.

Gimenez was recognized as the suspect by the female passenger in the victim’s car, according to cops, who also gave them a picture of the man.

The connection between Gimenez and the victims was not disclosed by the authorities, and it is yet unknown what his motivation was.

The female victim informed the judge that the gunfire caused the male victim to lose his sight when she appeared in court via Zoom on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, Gimenez showed up in a Miami-Dade courtroom. The judge placed him under arrest without posting bond and gave him instructions to avoid both victims. He was also prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition.
