Five Points in Jacksonville Filled With Crowds as Police on Horseback Patrol

The Five Points neighborhood in Riverside was the epicenter of the mayhem that prompted the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to send scores of officers, including mounted-horse units, to the area throughout the course of the weekend.

In spite of the high volume of foot traffic that passes through the region on a daily basis, the region has developed into a prosperous and diverse area for the regional economy.

However, this particular section of Park Street served as the epicenter of a violent brawl that broke out after hours between clubgoers and JSO.

Action News Jax has received an exclusive video that shows groups of JSO officers patrolling the area on foot, officers on bikes securing Park Street, and JSO’s mounted team responding to the situation.

Others remained in the area while what appeared to be pepper spray and tear gas were deployed to clear the streets. While some people frantically tried to flee the area, others waited it out. A portion of the footage shows an officer repeatedly punching a person who is on the ground. The punches are delivered by the officer.

Reports of Action On Saturday, Jax was made aware of the calls for service that were placed by JSO. According to the report, dispatch received five calls from the Five Points neighborhood, three of which were due to allegations of assault.

We had a conversation with Sheriff T.K. Waters of Jacksonville regarding the events that took place this weekend, and we will get his comment on Action News Jax at 6 o’clock.
