To stimulate the local economy, the Borger Economic Development Corporation started construction of Yucca Park Estates, a new residential community.
“Currently our population has shrunk, and so what that does, it also creates an inventory problem. So when our industries and our businesses are trying to recruit workforce, they have a hard time because they have nowhere to live,” Borger EDC Executive Director Amy Fesser stated.
An affordable housing project called Achievable Housing is being carried out by the Borger EDC as part of its efforts to expand the housing market.
Up to 100 properties owned by the EDC are planned for development, according to Fesser. Contractors are expected to start developing as soon as incentive packages created by EDC authorities are finalized.
“One of my favorite quotes is from John F. Kennedy that says you know, ‘A rising tide lifts all boats.’ And so if we ride the tide of the economy in one community, it begins to rise the tide of the economy in all of our surrounding communities,” Fesser stated.’
