Second Individual Detained in Connection to Central Florida Field Body Burning

RUSKIN, Fla.– In connection with a body that was found burning in a field in Ruskin, a second guy has been taken into custody.

On April 15, soon after 8 a.m., a worried caller reported to dispatch that they drove passed what they believed to be a burning mannequin in an open field behind a residential neighborhood on Will Scarlett Avenue in Ruskin, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

After arriving on the scene to put out the fire, firefighters from Fire Rescue discovered that the mannequin was actually the body of a man who had recently passed away. The person had injuries to their upper body and was suffering from serious burns when they were found.

The United States Marshals Service was successful in locating Carlos Almaraz-Barbosa, age 26, in the city of Houston, Texas, on Thursday. According to the sheriff’s office, he is the second individual to be arrested in connection with the investigation.

In April of last year, he was captured on camera at a neighboring petrol station, and investigators decided to make the video public in the hopes that someone might recognize him.

Almaraz-Barbosa is accused of murder in the second degree, abuse of a dead human corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and grand theft of a motor vehicle, according to the investigators who worked on the case. The Hillsborough County court will decide whether or not to extradite him.

Christian Segura-Alvarez was taken into custody by HCSO on April 21 for his involvement in the crime. Alvarez was charged with murder in the second degree as well as tampering with physical evidence in connection with a life-threatening crime. He has a bond set at 600,000 dollars and is now being held in the county jail.

“Our detectives have never stopped working on this brutal case,” stated Sheriff Chad Chronsiter. The cruel individuals who were detained will now be held accountable for the reprehensible things they did.

I am aware that nothing can take the place of the life that was taken, but I pray that the family of the victim can find some measure of comfort in the fact that all of the perpetrators have been arrested.
