During the weekend of July 4th, more than twenty-one persons were taken into custody in Bullhead City and Mohave County.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office reports that in addition to issuing 18 citations, deputies also made seven arrests for reckless operation of a watercraft, one arrest for resisting arrest, one arrest for using alcohol, and one arrest for operating a watercraft while intoxicated.
Along with helping twenty-one boaters, deputies also looked into five boat collisions and attended to four water rescues and three medical emergencies.
Deputies were called to a two-boat collision on Lake Havasu on Thursday, July 4, at 8:19 p.m. Investigators found that eight passengers were on a 24-foot Yamaha boat that was headed east when it collided with a 27-foot pontoon boat carrying eight people.
The Yamaha boat had “severe damage,” and two of its occupants had to be brought to the hospital for non-life-threatening medical attention.

John Schertzer, a Yorba Linda, California resident, was identified as the 42-year-old operator of the Yamaha boat. Because of his operating under the influence, he was arrested.
Around 6:24 p.m. on Friday, July 5, deputies were called to the Crazy Horse Campground on Lake Havasu in response to reports that a boat carrying nine persons had sunk.
A 20-foot Warlock was traveling through the area when it got flooded, according to the investigators, and fell to the lake’s bottom. No injuries were recorded, and passing boaters saved all nine persons.
The Bullhead City Police Department reports that from July 4 to July 7, they fielded 926 service requests.
Fifteen individuals were taken into custody by the police for criminal charges, five for driving while intoxicated, and one for operating while intoxicated.
In addition, they handled four watercraft incidents and twelve auto accidents.
