Mother Killed, Brother Injured in Michigan Shooting Incident; Suspect Faces Charges

It is alleged that a man from Clinton Township shot and killed his mother and injured his brother.

As per the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, Corey Deyshaun Cook, 24, has been charged with two charges of felony firearm and first-degree premeditated murder as well as assault with intent to murder.

A $1 million cash/surety bond was given to him upon his arraignment in 41B District Court.

Cook shot his brother, 31, and Yolanda Cook, 49, in their house on July 5, 2024, according to the prosecution. Then, he proceeded to the Clinton Township Police Department and reported that he had fired two shots.

Yolanda Cook was discovered deceased at the scene by police during a welfare check. The brother is receiving life support after being transported to a local hospital.

“Our office is committed to seeking justice for the victims and their family. We will ensure that the accused is held fully accountable for this alleged premeditated act of violence,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido stated.
