In Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, an explosion on Sunday left at least five people dead, according to police.
According to Somali police spokesman Maj. Abdifitah Aden Hassa, some patrons of the café were watching the European soccer final between Spain and England on a screen when an explosives-laden car blew up outside. At least twenty other persons were hurt in the attack, he informed reporters.
Following the explosion, there was a fire outside the café, as seen in photos that appeared to be from the incident and were shared online.
“Some of the spectators got injured while trying to jump the perimeter wall of the café, and others got wounded in a stampede,” witness Ismail Adan stated.
According to him, the majority of the casualties were on the street when the explosion occurred. Who carried out the attack was not immediately apparent.
Al-Shabab, an Islamic militant group, is known to have carried out attacks in Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia. The group is against the federal government of Somalia since it is dependent on foreign forces for its continued existence.
However, the past few months have seen a lot of calm in Mogadishu. On Saturday, a jailbreak attempt by convicts inside a Mogadishu prison disrupted the quiet.

Prisoners found guilty of their roles in al-Shabab attacks engaged in a gunfight with prison guards prior to their execution in that attack, which claimed the lives of at least eight people.
The extremist group is being targeted by a high-profile attack by the Somalian government, which the United States has called one of al-Qaida’s deadliest organizations.
The extremists, who command a sizable portion of central and southern Somalia and have been the focus of numerous American airstrikes in recent years, have been proclaimed the enemy of “total war” by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia.
