The terrible revelation that Ellie Lorenzo’s father, a three-year-old who vanished last week while under his care, may have killed her before taking his own life was made public by San Jose police on Tuesday.

After learning that the girl’s father, Jared Lorenzo, had been discovered dead in San Francisco, the girl’s biological mother reported her missing on Friday, prompting the Fremont police to launch an appeal for assistance from the public in locating her.

The San Jose Police Department released a statement on Tuesday afternoon stating that patrol officers were called to a suspicious situation at a recycling business in the 600 block of Charles Street at approximately 4:38 a.m. on Saturday.

A worker reported to the police that they had discovered a young woman who appeared to be dead in the facility’s processing area. Officers on the scene discovered a deceased girl victim, age three, who fit Ellie’s description.

The SJPD Homicide Unit assumed responsibility for the investigation into Ellie’s death. Ellie was the victim that the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office was able to positively identify on Monday.

According to police, the cause and manner of death are still being investigated, and the Coroner’s Office will make that determination after a medical examination.

Ellie was last seen alive on Thursday night at a Fremont home with her father, who is currently being considered a suspect in her death, according to detectives.

It was later discovered by the detectives that Lorenzo and the girl drove to his Fremont apartment. Detectives learned on Friday that Lorenzo had driven to San Jose shortly after 6 a.m. from his Fremont apartment, taken Ellie’s body from the car’s trunk, and thrown her body in a garbage can.

Police stated the garbage firm later unintentionally emptied the container and moved it to the Charles Street facility.

Lorenzo went to several nearby Bay Area locations before stopping in the city of San Francisco, where he was discovered dead just after 11 a.m. on Friday, according to police-cited further evidence. Lorenzo appeared to have committed suicide, according to San Jose police on Monday.

The cause of the child’s death and its circumstances are still being looked into, according to the authorities. The event is being looked at by police as San Jose’s 19th homicide of 2024.
