A Missouri firefighter has acknowledged to swiping an accident victim’s credit card in order to pay for things like petrol and a car wash, and now the prosecutor wants him to serve a maximum of five years in jail.
Arnold Britt, 41, entered a guilty plea on Tuesday to charges of receiving stolen property and making fraudulent use of a credit/debit card, as stated by the prosecuting attorney’s office for St. Louis County.
Prosecutors are recommending five years for the stolen goods charge and one year for the fraud charge, according to spokesman Chris King. The sentences would flow one after the other. September 6th is the day set aside for sentence.
The St. Louis Fire Department once praised Britt as a bright example when the former wide receiver for the University of Missouri traded in his football outfit for bunker gear.
However, all changed in February 2023 when Britt, while attending to a quadruple fatal crash at Saint Louis University, took a credit card from one of the survivors. An automobile toppled from an overpass and came to rest upside down.
Seven Robinson, 18, reported to authorities that he felt a police officer had taken his wallet, according to local NBC affiliate KSDK. He claimed that since he was out enjoying his birthday, the wallet held roughly $700 in cash. On camera, Britt was seen removing Robinson’s wallet in order to obtain his ID.

However, Britt placed the wallet under his jacket rather than returning it to Robinson. After that, Britt spent roughly $120 on gas, a car wash, and a few other goods at a convenience shop, according to an indictment from the prosecution.
Britt informed officers that, upon realizing his error, he had mistakenly believed he was using his wife’s credit card.
In an interview, Robinson expressed his disappointment, saying he had never received the $700 in cash back. It was more than a coincidence. It was young people’s deaths.”
