According to a news release from the sheriff’s department, a Georgia man who was wanted by Cobb County for trying to kill a police officer was apprehended in Richland County, South Carolina, following a two-hour standoff.
On Summer Court in the Carriage Oaks community, Julio Figueroa, 39, was visiting family.
According to a news release from the police, Figueroa locked himself inside the house after Richland County deputies “safely” removed a mother and her two small children from it.
Figueroa was uncooperative after the two hours, the police claimed, and deputies from Richland County’s Special Response Team deployed gas to “affect compliance,” according to the news release.
After that, according to deputies, Figueroa turned himself in and was placed under arrest.
According to the announcement, when Richland County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the house, they discovered evidence for Cobb County police.
He was wanted for aggravated weapon-assisted police assault, first-degree burglary, felon in possession of a handgun, obstruction (a felony offense), and loitering.

After being taken to a nearby hospital, he will be held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center until he is returned to Georgia through extradition.
“The commendable coordination of police work between Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Cobb County Police Department led to the removal of a dangerous and violent felon from one of our communities,” a news release from the department stated. “Sheriff Leon Lott, along with RCSD’s Special Response Team and Fugitive Task Force, are honored to have been able to assist in bringing closure to officers at the Cobb County Police Department.”
Not all of the incident’s specifics, which resulted in Figueroa’s initial accusations, were immediately apparent.
