In relation to a “illegal car show gathering” that took place in Worcester on Friday night, 53 individuals, including a kid, were taken into custody, according to law authorities.
According to Worcester police, there has been a rise in “impromptu car shows” at various locations in the city since the spring. These events have grown more problematic, as officers have responded to numerous incidents involving gunshots, property damage, reckless driving, and large, unruly gatherings.
The Worcester Police Department reports that on Friday, officers responded to multiple complaints from the public regarding more car shows and unpredictable drivers.
After neighbors reported seeing a big group of automobiles racing and driving erratically through the busy commercial complex, investigators noticed tire tracks and skid marks across the parking lot of the former Dick’s Sporting Goods on Lincoln Street shortly after 9 p.m., according to police.
After receiving a call for a complaint of a huge gathering of vehicles, police say they were able to record the license plates of cars as they exited a parking lot on New Bond Street in less than an hour.
Just before midnight, the officers discovered that the drivers had reserved 330 Southwest Cutoff as one of their gathering places on the internet. When the cops arrived, they heard loud music and the sound of revving motors. They also noticed that some of the cars were from the New Bond Street lot.

About thirty automobiles were discovered behind a structure, according to police, who also detained 53 adults and one minor there.
In order to get the arrested people to the police station, a bus and a patrol vehicle were dispatched to the location. Rather than having their cars towed, the relatives and friends of the arrested were let to drive their cars away from the site.
“These types of dangerous gatherings put innocent members of our community at risk and will not be tolerated in the City of Worcester,” Interim Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier stated.
There were no firearms found after a scan of the parking area, and no injuries were reported. There is a current investigation.
