Comprehensive Overview of the Man Killed by Jacksonville Police, Wanted in Broward

Zonchez Delarfette Prince, 39 years old, has been named as the person who was shot and killed by authorities on Friday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

In relation to a homicide investigation that was taking on in Broward County, the authorities in Jacksonville had been collaborating with those there and had carried out a search warrant at a residence and on a vehicle.

According to what the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported in the past, it led to the discovery of two firearms, one in the residence and one in the vehicle.

This resulted in the issuance of a second warrant, this time for Prince’s arrest in connection with the case. Officers followed him in a vehicle to the parking area of a retail center in Orange Park, which was located in the 1100 block of Park Avenue.

According to Chief Alan Parker, they contacted a SWAT unit and made contact with the individual at approximately 6:00 p.m. while officers blocked his vehicle with their own.

This year, shots have been fired at three members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. This is what we currently know.

According to Parker, who was present at the incident, Prince was uncooperative and said things to the effect of “I’m not getting out, you’re going to have to shoot me, you’re going to have to kill me.”

While one police exited the vehicle, another cop in the front kept contact with the suspect and continued to direct him to exit the vehicle. The suspect then brandished a weapon at that officer, at which point both cops opened fire, ultimately resulting in the suspect’s death, according to Parker.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office did not make any additional information on the homicide Prince was linked to available to the public. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has also been contacted by the Times-Union in order to obtain further information.

An examination of the court records in Broward County reveals that Prince does not have a criminal record there, with the exception of a single arrest for a misdemeanor in 2008 on accusations of possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

Between the years 2010 and 2022, he had no issues at all in Clay County, while in Duval County he had nothing more than a few traffic fines and a couple of evictions.

According to the data kept by the Times-Union, this was the seventh time this year that a suspect has been shot by the Sheriff’s Office. Of those seven, six of them have died. In the previous year, police in Jacksonville shot and killed eight people while also shooting 12 other people.
