JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — At the Northwood apartments located on Dunn Avenue, the garbage that had been piling up was scheduled to be cleared by the end of business on Monday. It was still there on Monday afternoon when I checked on it.
The Municipal Code Compliance Division of the city of Jacksonville issued a warning ticket to the complex for “failure to maintain the premises free from the trash.”
In addition, there was an ongoing investigation into a nuisance issue involving trash, and a repair order had already been given to a contractor. To clarify, this means that the city might hire a contractor to go to the property and remove the trash on its behalf.
In addition to this, the city warned the apartment complex that they would be subject to a fine of $255 if the waste was not removed by the close of business on Monday.
News4JAX had a conversation with a resident in the area who requested that her identity be withheld.
She mentioned that she was aware that the city has issued a warning citation to the apartment complex, and she feels that it is absurd if they do nothing to fix the problem.
The woman spoke the words, “I find myself repulsed.” “It makes me uncomfortable to have visitors in this place. It’s almost as though we’re living in the projects.”
According to the anonymous woman who did not wish to be named, the dumpsters that are overflowing have been there for weeks and are creating an increase in the number of insects that are found within the complex.
The woman said that the insects were bad and that there were now hornet flies.
Additionally, a video was sent local resident of the building. It showed the dumpster on fire with its contents overflowing.
Since the beginning of April, there have been three fires that have started in dumpsters at the Northwood Apartments, according to Captain Eric Prosswimmer of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
The person who talked with News4JAX expressed their wish that those flames, in addition to the trash that was piling up, would be put out.
“They should get this fixed or people are going to stop paying their rent,” she added. “If they don’t get this fixed, people are going to stop paying their rent.” We are going to cooperate with one another in order to hold them accountable for their actions.
In addition, the city has stated that a lien will be issued on the property in the event that the contractor does end up going out to remove the rubbish. This lien will cover the costs related to trash and debris disposal.
