Following the destruction of trees and powerlines by Saturday’s strong storm system, many Baltimore residents are still without electricity.
In Baltimore, 184 roadways were closed and over 400 trees were felled. There were more than eighty traffic light outages. Artscape weekend was marred by storms, which forced the cancellation of Friday and Saturday night’s main stage concerts by Shiela E and Chaka Khan.
A boat capsized and occupants were retrieved from the water, but no injuries were recorded.
“We have been through this,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott stated. “This is muscle memory for us, so unfortunately, we’ve gotten used to having these storms which is why we have these protocols and things at the ready.”
Approximately 30,000 people in Baltimore City lost power last night, according to BGE. Almost half are back to normal.
“My power is still out,” Baltimore resident Victor Subidad stated. “It’s been out all night. Just rough trying to figure out when you’re going to get it back. So I’ve been hoping it’s going to be back when I get home.”
“Have a plan in place, both at home and at work. [Keep] non perishable foods, enough water for each person within your household to last for three days, [and] have cash on hand,” Joe Henderson, director of emergency management for Baltimore City, stated.

The city advises citizens to have emergency supplies on hand, particularly in the event of severe weather. Significant heat and humidity this past weekend prevented several families from having power or air conditioning.
A Code Red Extreme Heat Alert has been in effect in Baltimore City through Monday due to the “alarming number of power outages.”
All citizens are being urged by Mayor Scott to exercise patience as workers continue into the night to restore power and return the city to normal.
