MIAMI – An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of a beloved businessman and father of six children on Tuesday.
According to Miami police, the suspected shooter, 38-year-old Ferris Phillips II, was apprehended in Fort Lauderdale.
Miami Police spokeswoman Kiara Delva stated that the incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. when Nader Aweidah, 46, was found inside his business, the Perfect Paint and Body Shop at 7455 NW 7th Ave., with gunshot wounds.
Aweidah had owned the shop for two decades, as mentioned by his friends. Tragically, when Miami Fire Rescue arrived at the scene, he was pronounced dead.
Aweidah, who was affectionately known as “Bubba,” also owned Bubba’s Supermarket adjacent to the paint and body shop.
Delva expressed, “Based on our understanding, he was a highly respected figure in the community. This was yet another senseless act of violence.”
Crystal, a friend of Aweidah, shared her disbelief about the incident. She said, “He was an exceptional man who always looked out for the community. He did everything he could to help. It’s a heartbreaking story.”
“This is incredibly tragic. We need to put an end to this violence. He cherished his children deeply. I don’t know what transpired, but there must have been a way to resolve it peacefully,” Crystal added.
