Houston Horror: Texas Deputy Shot Dead While Driving to Work

Early on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said, a Texas deputy constable was shot and killed at a Houston crossroads while he was traveling to work. Early on Tuesday night, authorities declared that a person of interest had been taken into custody.

Around 12:30 p.m., the deputy was in his personal SUV at a west Houston crossroads when a man got out of his car, approached the deputy, and opened fire, according to Houston Police Chief J. Noe Diaz. The suspect discharged his weapon many times.

Maher Husseini, the deputy, was not wearing a uniform when he was shot, based on initial reports, Diaz added.

Police posted on social media that they had detained a person of interest in Galveston, but they gave no other information. About 50 miles southeast of Houston is Galveston.

Police had earlier stated that they were searching for a male, estimated to be between 35 and 40 years old, with dark, thinning hair who was dressed in dark clothing.

According to Diaz, the guy was operating a charcoal-grey Chevy Impala that had an unusual bumper malformation underneath the vehicle.

According to Diaz, authorities were still investigating if the deputy had been the target of a shooting and what motivated the shooting. They were looking into the possibility that it was a case of road rage.

“It’s an awful thing for the community, for someone to lose their life, someone that’s dedicated their life to public service,” Diaz stated. “It is absolutely tragic.”

Herman said in a statement that the deputy was transferred to a hospital in Houston and later declared deceased.

“We are saddened about the murder of one of our Precinct 4 deputies on his way to work today,” Herman stated.
