JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a longtime friend, according to sources familiar with their relationship.
The incident took place on Saturday in Orange Park. John Thigpen has been charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Napoleon Brown, 35 years old, at a residence in the 500 block of Constitution Drive.
Thigpen contacted the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to report the shooting, as stated in a news release by the Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered Brown lying on the kitchen floor with multiple gunshot wounds to his head and body.
Investigation findings indicate that Thigpen was responsible for shooting the victim.
The news release mentioned that the two individuals were acquainted and had a dispute prior to the incident.
According to friends, the shooting occurred near Brown’s birthday.
They expressed their disbelief, stating, “They were both best friends… it doesn’t make any sense to me. He was a good man and an even better father who worked very hard.”
Sheriff Michelle Cook expressed her regret in the news release, saying, “It’s unfortunate that a situation like this between two friends has resulted in the loss of a life.”
The motive behind the shooting has not been disclosed by the sheriff’s office.
