JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — According to the State Attorney’s Office, a man accused of killing a woman and her unborn baby in Jacksonville has been sentenced to life in prison.
George Prince Jr. was found guilty by a Duval County jury on two counts of first-degree murder for the October 2019 murder of Iyana McGraw and her baby.
Following the verdict, Judge Mark Borello immediately handed down two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole at Florida State Prison for Prince.
The incident occurred when Prince’s apartment was shot at on the morning of October 7, 2019. Prince believed the shooter was McGraw’s boyfriend, Miles Hall, and he intended to send him a message.
Later that day, witnesses saw Prince and several others getting ready to seek revenge. Prince went to Hall and McGraw’s apartment, where McGraw informed him that Hall was not present.
Despite this, Prince fired multiple shots at the front door and windows of the apartment, where McGraw was standing.
Tragically, 19-year-old McGraw, who was nine months pregnant, was struck by multiple bullets and succumbed to her injuries.
Although first responders were able to deliver her baby, Milan, the child passed away a few months later due to complications from the shooting.
During the investigation, a witness reported to the police that Prince had tried to recruit him earlier that day to assist with the shooting.
When the witness objected, Prince callously stated, “I don’t care, I kill women and children, too.” Other witnesses were able to place Prince at the scene of the shooting and provided information about his premeditated actions leading up to the murder.
Prince’s co-defendant, Gerod Fields, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder for his involvement. Investigators discovered that Fields had driven Prince to and from the scene and was found in possession of the murder weapon.
The sentencing for Fields will be determined by Judge Mark Borello at a later date. The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Alan Mizrahi and Marcus Isom Jr.
