According to federal officials, packages of organic carrots sold in 19 states are being recalled by more than a dozen companies due to possible E. coli contamination.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement that it is looking into an E. coli outbreak linked to the carrots that has occurred in several states. In relation to the outbreak, 15 people have been hospitalized and one person has died.
Several kinds of bagged organic baby and whole carrots were recalled by Grimmway Farms. Although the impacted brands are probably no longer available in stores, they may still be present in consumers’ homes.
According to the CDC, the impacted whole carrots were sold from August 14 to October 23. There are no best-if-used-by dates on them. However, this year’s best-if-used-by dates for baby carrots fall between September 11 and November 12.
The recalled carrots should not be consumed, according to the CDC. Customers are urged by the organization to inspect their refrigerators and get rid of any impacted goods. Use hot, soapy water or a dishwasher to clean any objects or surfaces that might have come into contact with the recalled carrots.
