Big Lots has stated plans to close more locations while reportedly removing others from the closure process as it proceeds through the Chapter 11 bankruptcy process.
The bargain retailer announced plans to liquidate about 550 outlets after declaring bankruptcy earlier this year. After many waves of closures were announced, Big Lots seemed to hit that mark in the middle of October. Over 240 of its stores had shut down by that point.
However, the business put a halt to some of its scheduled closures earlier this month.
Banners on the websites of several locations had changed from the vivid orange notice that said, “Closing this location,” to the one that had been there before to the closures being announced, urging consumers to “Share your big ideas!”
Since then, several of those banners have once more reverted to their closed version, affecting places in Carson City, Nevada; Redding, California; and Kennewick and Yakima, Washington.
“We continue to evaluate store closings in light of lease renegotiations and other considerations, and remain committed to keeping our customers informed as we move forward,” a Big Lots representative told in a statement last week. Customers can use our store locator at www.biglots.com to find the most recent information on a specific Big Lots location.
As of November 19, the phrase “closing” has been replaced with “share your big ideas!” on the banners of websites for other businesses in 17 states, mostly in the Midwest and East.

More than 270 Big Lots locations that were originally scheduled to close have done so as of November 19 and have been taken down from the company’s website. It looks like more than 200 Big Lots locations are still going through the closure process.

Earlier this month, the company confirmed that Big Lots locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving this year.
