After falling after a gym session, a basketball player from the University of Mobile in Alabama passed away, according to his coach.
Charles Smith, the president of the university, wrote to the students that Kaiden Francis was a freshman basketball player from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The Associated Press said that Francis was discovered unconscious not long after a weekly skills practice with the university’s trainers and coaching staff. Francis passed away on Tuesday “despite the quick and heroic efforts,” Smith said, despite the efforts of students and medical personnel to provide assistance.
They did not disclose the reason of death. Francis recently cleared a number of medical tests, including assessments of his heart and lungs.
On social media, Francis’ coach Darnell Archey stated that the point guard had been “doing what he loved to do, working on his craft in the gym” prior to his collapse.
“Kaiden was just scratching the surface on the court but his smile and positive energy could be felt from day 1,” Archey stated. “He will be truly missed and I can’t thank him enough for being apart of my life over the past few months. My heart aches for his family, friends and teammates.”

Smith stated that counseling services are available and that Wednesday’s cancellation of classes gave pupils time to grieve.
On Saturday, November 16, Francis had participated in a game against Life University of Georgia. The Associated Press reported that he scored 10 points after coming off the bench. The game was won by the University of Mobile.
“My family and I had the privilege of watching Kaiden play just last week,” Smith stated. “He was profoundly gifted and clearly loved by his teammates.”
