Travis Hunter, a two-way star for the Colorado Buffaloes, said on Thursday that he intends to enter the 2025 NFL draft. When asked if he planned to declare, Hunter, 21, responded, “That’s definitely for sure.”

Hunter, a cornerback and receiver for the Buffaloes, is a favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. He is predicted by many to be chosen first overall in April.

When asked if it is uncommon to play both offense and defense professionally, Hunter replied, “It’s never been done.”

He continued: “I understand that it will be a high risk. [Teams] don’t want their top pick to go down too early, and I know they’re going to want me to be in a couple packages. But I believe I can do it. Nobody has stopped me from doing it thus far.”

Hunter has set career highs with 74 receptions for 911 yards and nine touchdowns in 10 games this season. He has 23 tackles, eight passes defended, and three interceptions on defense.

After high school, Hunter was a highly sought-after player and was regarded as a five-star prospect by many. He became the first five-star recruit to pledge to an HBCU after initially committing to Florida State and then switching to Jackson State.

Prior to the 2023 season, when Deion Sanders took over as head coach, Hunter played one season for Jackson State before transferring to Colorado.

Hunter played on offense, defense, and special teams last season, averaging nearly 115 plays per game.

Shedeur, Sanders’s son and a quarterback for Colorado, is expected to be one of the first signal callers chosen in the draft the following year. Another player who may make it to the Heisman finals, Sanders, stated Thursday believes Hunter is the more worthy of the two to receive the honor.

“If it’s between me and him, I would want him to get it,” Sanders stated. “He does a lot of amazing things and things that haven’t been done before. I’m not a selfish guy. I know what he’s capable of, so I would rather him win.”
