To fund police K9 programs around the state, the West Virginia Law Enforcement Police K9 Fund is attempting to raise $137,000.
According to group officials who spoke to 12 News, if their fundraising target is met, the fund will be self-sustaining, which means that it will be able to buy one or two puppies every two to three years indefinitely with interest.
Any police department in the state would be able to apply for and receive a police dog because to the fund’s accessibility.
K9s are used by the Morgantown Police Department as a “force multiplier,” according to Sergeant Brad Palmer, who spoke with 12 News.
“What they can do with their noses, there’s no technology that can duplicate that. They’re able to locate drugs for us, they’re able to locate people for us.
That includes somebody that’s broken the law or somebody that could be missing,” Palmer stated.
