More than 1,100 pounds of cocaine were taken from a truck in the state’s far west by Illinois State Police on Friday.
According to state police, at around 2:10 p.m., an ISP trooper stopped a Volvo truck-tractor semi-trailer on Interstate 80 in Henry County. The trooper discovered the alleged cocaine.
The estimated street value of the 1,146 pounds of cocaine that were discovered was over $40 million.
Manpreet Singh, 36, and Vanshpreet Singh, 27, were arrested for cocaine trafficking, cocaine possession, and cocaine possession with intent to distribute.
In order to await a pre-trial release hearing, they were brought to the Henry County Jail.
“ISP’s coordinated focus on trafficking is helping keep dangerous drugs out of our communities,” ISP Director Brandan F. Kelly stated in a statement. “From commercial motor vehicle inspections, to daily patrol, to targeted anti-violence and trafficking details, ISP is making communities safer.”
The inquiry was aided by the Chicago Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
