WPBN: During Sunday’s Buffalo Bills game against the 49ers, an NFL fan assaulted an eight-year-old girl who is battling cancer, according to her family.
The diagnosis of childhood undifferentiated embryonal sarcoma of the liver was made in January 2022 for Mia DeCamilla. Her liver cancer relapsed in May of last year, but she has since fought and defeated it twice.
While watching 49ers games with her father in the hospital, she developed a strong affinity for the team and was eager to watch them play the Bills last weekend. For the game, the family traveled from Rochester, New York, to Buffalo.
However, the incident at the child’s first-ever NFL game left her “emotionally shaken” and hesitant to attend another game in the near future.
They were in an unshoveled area of the stadium when a “drunk” Bills fan attempted to force Mia down the stairs, according to her father, Mike Decamilla.
“He stated, “I’m going to push through all these Niner fans,” Mike DeCamilla stated to WIVB. “So, he actually bumped me and my son a little bit and then got past me and pushed her, almost slid off the stairs and hit her like side on the chairs.”
There was no bodily harm to Mia.According to the source, the family left the game before it was over since the occurrence made them feel so uneasy.
“The guy purposely walked through and was pushing through people,” Mike DeCamilla continued. “I get that it’s busy and hectic, but he had to be 6 foot and she is less than 100 pounds.”
Watching the game had thrilled Mia. She carried a banner that read, “I beat cancer,” as she arrived to the stadium.
“In the car, when we were driving there, I was saying like, ‘Are we there yet?’ I was too excited. I was full of energy,” the girl stated.
After the incident, Mia now says she won’t be returning to the stadium anytime soon.
“We don’t want to go back because I felt uncomfortable and I just don’t feel ready to go there anymore,” Mia stated.
In an effort to increase awareness of the struggles faced by children like her, she and her father are speaking out about the incident. Mia’s father remarked, “I know that there’s competitiveness and whatnot, but there’s a point where it’s a family event.”
Whether the event was reported to the police is unknown. The Bills have not yet addressed the claims.

Many social media users urged Bills supporters to “do better” after the incident, stating that the girl’s reported ordeal is not indicative of how Bills supporters behave toward others.
Antonio Brown, an NFL wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, became aware of the incident and set up a Facetime with Mia. Out of a $10,000 target, $26,000 has been raised by a GoFundMe to fund her fight.
