WPBN: Governor Ron DeSantis said Thursday that he is giving an extra $7.8 million to people whose houses were damaged by Hurricanes Milton and Helene.
According to him, the money is from the Florida Disaster Fund and is intended to assist Floridians in rebuilding so that life may return to normal.
Rebuilding and repairing homes damaged by the storms would be made easier with the reward.
During the tornado, the Delgado family’s Wellington home collapsed on them, so we followed up with them. After the disaster, they claimed they needed some financial assistance.
Yuri Lopez goes on to say that the news gives her hope.
“It would mean a lot because it would help us with mostly everything that we lost and to rebuild everything again,” Lopez stated.
In the meantime, the cost of living in her new apartment is causing problems for Jennifer Oro’s 93-year-old mother, who lives in Martin County.
Prior to the tornado destroying her house, she resided in St. Lucie County’s Spanish Lakes area.
“I think the money would hopefully go toward people who need that financial support because they don’t have the family support to help them,” stated Oro. “Any kind of aid will help people like my mother.”

Six individuals were killed after the tornado in the senior residence where Oro’s mother lived.
“I think some of that money might help with some of the sorrow and devastation as well,” Oro stated.
DeSantis also announced that $500,000 would be given to school district foundations to encourage teachers and support personnel for their efforts during the storm, and $300,000 would be given to Florida’s first responders.
