WPBN: Affordable housing in the Sunshine State can be difficult to find, as any Floridian who has bought a home in the last several years is likely aware.
In Florida, the cost of rent increased by 36% between 2020 and 2023. The cost of homes in Florida also increased by 60% between 2019 and 2024.
Residents of Florida who aspire to buy their own houses but earn too much to be eligible for public housing might be interested in learning about a new, reasonably priced option.
About the project in question and the emphasis on workforce affordability options: At 4489 Cambio Gardens Court in Tampa, Gardens at Diana Point North has started construction on a four-acre townhome complex.
24 townhomes, each measuring 1750 square feet and including three bedrooms and two bathrooms, will be part of the project.
Families must earn 80% of the local median income, or about $53,500 annually, where a family of four would earn $76,400 annually, in order to be eligible for purchase.

According to Vanessa McCleary, CDC of Tampa’s vice president of real estate development, the project aims to provide Florida’s workforce with the chance to become homeowners. Part of what she told The Tampa Bay Business Journal was:
“We have really been focusing on homeownership opportunities…We wanted to build something that was affordable for the local workforce…We have nurses and teachers and firefighters who cannot afford to live here. They keep moving further away to find more affordable housing and then, ultimately, they just give up and leave this community altogether…We’re talking about working professionals who cannot afford to pay $2,500 or $3,000 a month for rent. And they’re leaving.”
