From Monday, December 9, 1024, through Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Arizona will see cooler temperatures and stronger, gustier winds.
As high pressure moves into the state, the gradient gets tighter, bringing with it cold air advection and stronger winds, particularly in northern Arizona.
Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph are predicted beginning Monday afternoon, particularly in northern Arizona. Kingman, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Holbrook, Show Low, and other northern parts of the state will be affected by these winds.
These powerful winds will continue to affect the Mogollon Rim from Flagstaff to Southern Apache and Navajo Counties on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, winds of 25 to 35 mph are also predicted for southern Arizona. Winds in southern Arizona are predicted to reach 20 to 30 mph on Wednesday.
In addition to the powerful winds, the state’s temperatures will decrease due to cold air advection.
This will be especially noticeable in northern Arizona, where Tuesday morning is predicted to bring the coldest temperatures. This will cause the Mogollon Rim to freeze hard.
