WPBN: The San Diego Police Department reports that a man died Friday afternoon after being mauled by his three dogs in a local park.
At a children’s playground in Mesa Viking Neighborhood Park, the dogs, who were described by the police as XL bullies, a breed distinguished by its size and strength, attacked their owner. According to officials, officers had to stop the attack with a Taser.
Observe According to Steve Marto, who lives across the street from the park, at first he believed the cops were attempting to arrest someone.
“I just saw they had something trapped in the weeds over here. I thought it was a person at first because they were talking about setting up a perimeter,” Marto stated. He later realized officers were attempting to round up the three large dogs.
“They were big, like XL bullies, just massive muscle,” Marto stated.
Around midday, witnesses reportedly called 911 to report the incident, according to the police. When the officers who responded arrived, they discovered that the victim had been bitten multiple times by the dogs. Unharmed was a child who was present with the victim.
The dogs were attacked with shovels and maybe a golf club, which was discovered at the site along with damaged clothing and a shoe. Good Samaritans attempted to interfere by hitting the dogs; however, they were unsuccessful. The dogs fled after the Taser was used by a law enforcement officer to put an end to the attack.
“The officer was able to break up the dogs. They fled, and the injured male was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries,” Sgt. Matthew Hone stated.
It was confirmed by the victim’s sister that he passed away at the hospital farther down the road.
However, a third dog remained on the loose, which resulted in the Ericson Elementary School, which is located close, being placed into lockdown. Two of the canines were swiftly secured. Parents of pupils attending the school received an email informing them of the situation.
After some time, the police discovered the third dog at the residence of the owner, which is located close to the park. Marto voiced his fear at the prospect of owning beasts of such formidable strength.
“I don’t understand why someone would want to have three dogs that size. You’re just looking for a problem, in my opinion,” he stated.
Although it was Friday, the authorities had not yet made a decision regarding what would happen to the dogs.
