WPBN: In a statement that was issued by the fire department, it was stated that there were no reports of injuries following the fire that destroyed a huge home in Adams County on Friday.
According to a press release issued by the Gettysburg Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the 1900 block of Biglerville Road in Cumberland Township, which is located north of Gettysburg, at 11:37 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025.
The firefighters were called to the scene of a home fire that had been reported.
A chief officer with the department stated that a significant column of smoke was observed in the vicinity as they were on their way to the scene, and they requested that the working fire dispatch be called, according to the release.
As soon as the firefighters arrived, they discovered a fire that had extended across a big single-family residence and was in a very advanced stage, according to the department. Before the arrival of the fire service, all of the occupants had already escaped the building and were accounted for, as stated by the respective department.
According to the announcement, the fire did not spread to either of the two garages that were linked to the house, with one of the garages housing a rather large RV.
A concerted effort was made by firefighters to protect the garages that were not involved in the fire, which resulted in the garages being spared any damage.
As stated in the statement, there were no fire hydrants in the vicinity, which necessitated the implementation of rural water supply operations. Tanker trucks transported water from a residential subdivision on Misty Ridge to the location where the incident occurred.
The press release stated that crews worked at the scene for a number of hours in order to guarantee that the fire was put out thoroughly.
